About Libyan Desert Glass

Libyan Desert Glass is a rare and fascinating natural glass found in the remote sands of the Great Sand Sea, near the border of Egypt and Libya in the Sahara Desert. Formed approximately 29 million years ago as a result of an ancient meteorite impact, this extraordinary material is known for its beautiful golden-yellow to honey-colored appearance, exceptional clarity, and unique natural textures. Composed primarily of silica, Libyan Desert Glass is prized for its rarity, distinctive appearance, and extraterrestrial connection. With a hardness of approximately 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale, it has been treasured for thousands of years, even appearing in jewelry from ancient Egypt, including a scarab centerpiece in one of Tutankhamun's famous pectorals. In crystal healing traditions, Libyan Desert Glass is believed to promote personal transformation, spiritual growth, protection, and positive energy. Each piece is a unique natural treasure, carrying the remarkable history of one of Earth's most extraordinary geological events.
